About the Write-Off

We are excited to host our annual School-Wide Write-Off! This event is designed to help students build writing stamina and prepare for the structure of state testing in a supportive, low-stakes environment. By practicing timed writing now, we help our students reduce testing anxiety and walk into future exams with confidence.

The Challenge

Students will be showcasing what they’ve learned in their ELA units regarding Social Media Influencers and the Ethics of Digital Presence.
College-Ready Format: Students will complete their timed task in traditional "blue books" to mirror the college testing experience.
Preparation: Students will use resources and evidence gathered during their recent thematic ELA lessons.

Schedule & Logistics

While school start and end times remain the same, our daily schedule will be adjusted to accommodate the writing block:
8:45 AM: All students receive breakfast to ensure they are fueled and ready.
9:00 AM: The writing prompt is released school-wide.

Modified Schedule: Other class periods will be slightly shortened to protect this 45-minute block.
Equity & Accommodations: PSUSD is committed to student success. All pre-arranged testing accommodations have been finalized and will be seamlessly implemented during this event.

Celebrating Excellence

Following the event, ELA teachers will review the submissions. We will recognize a Top Essay and an Honorable Mention from each class to celebrate our students' growth as critical thinkers and writers.
